Topic: The Parallel Evolution of Viewing Stones and Bonsai Art
Please join us for a multimedia presentation by OC Bonsai Society and Aiseki Kai (Stone Lover’s Club) member Charles Buckner on “The Parallel Evolution of Viewing Stones and Bonsai Art”
The presentation will include a brief history of viewing stone (Scholar’s Rock) appreciation and it’s evolution through various Chinese and Japanese art forms. Charles will have on display several unique and interesting viewing stones from his collection, that will be discussed throughout the presentation. He will also be discussing viewing stone identification/selection, and detailing the various methods of formally displaying viewing stones.
Feel free to bring your favorite stone to talk or ask questions about
At the conclusion of the presentation/discussion, an opportunity drawing will be held to win a viewing stone on a daiza (custom wood base), including a tomobako (custom gift/storage box), both wood pieces hand-crafted by Charles. Tickets for the drawing will be available for purchase right after the presentation. All proceeds of the opportunity drawing go to OC Bonsai Society.
